Matthew Thiessen is a Canadian scholar of religion. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University.
His research focuses on Second Temple Judaism and the New Testament, with a particular interest in the ancient use of Jewish sacred texts and the Jewish law in early Judaism and early Christianity.
Education
Thiessen received his undergraduate degree in religious studies at Tyndale University College, in Toronto, ON, in 2001.

In 2003, he completed an M.A. in biblical studies at Trinity Western University, in Langley, BC. He won the Governor General's Gold Medal Award and his M.A. thesis was subsequently published in abbreviated form as "The Form and Function of the Song of Moses (Deuteronomy 32:1–43)," in the Journal of Biblical Literature.
