Christopher Anderson is the author of nine monographs of photography including the acclaimed trilogy of intensely personal works about family. Among his generation’s most widely published photographers, Christopher has been a frequent contributor to publications such as The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker.
From 2011 to 2014 he served as Photographer in Residence to New York Magazine, a collaboration where he helped to define the visual voice of the magazine with editors Adam Moss and Jody Quon. Christopher was a member of Magnum Photos since 2005.
Originally recognised for his work in conflict zones, his photographs depicting a journey with 44 Haitian immigrants attempting to sail to America on a hand-made, wooden boat would be awarded the Robert Capa Gold Medal.
The boat sank in the Caribbean and he would view this experience as a pivotal moment in his development as both a photographer and a human.
